JEE MAIN OVERVIEW

  • Lakhs of students appear for the Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) Main every year to achieve their dream of studying in the best engineering college. Getting the course and college of their choice is crucial for every student’s educational journey. These are the two factors (College and Course) that determine a student’s career prospects in the future. So, it is quite understandable to face a lot of pressure being put on your shoulders if you are planning to appear for JEE Main.
It is also essential to be fully aware of all the details related to this national-level competitive examination before appearing for it.
For that matter, we will provide you with all the important details you must know regarding the process of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.

  • What is the JEE (Main) 2024 Exam?
Widely known as JEE Main, the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is one of India's highly anticipated competitive examinations. JEE Main is the first of the two stages of JEE; the second stage is known as JEE (Advance). Conducted every year, JEE Main serves as an entry-level examination for students aspiring to get admission to engineering and architecture courses.
Upon qualifying, the candidates appearing for JEE Main are eligible for admission to undergraduate courses across technical and architecture colleges all across the country. Some of the most coveted engineering institutes in India which provide admission on the basis of JEE Main scores include all branches of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), and the Centrally-Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

  • What is the NTA? The JEE Main exam is administered and conducted by the authority known as the National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA is the agency responsible for conducting the JEE Main every year. NTA has been working as a self-sustained and autonomous testing organisation. Founded in 2018, it has established its status as a specialist and premier organisation that not only conducts the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) but also other competitive entrance tests like the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT), Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE) and many more.
The above-mentioned and many other examinations conducted by NTA are held at a national level for admissions to various different courses and institutes. NTA is also responsible for deciding the eligibility criteria, setting question papers, releasing admit cards, declaring results, and more such related activities. For preparation assistance, NTA also releases mock tests and lectures for subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, along with mock test papers for all entrance exams (accessible to those who register for the particular exam).
Throughout the year, the National Testing Agency has been conducting research in the technological field in order to smoothen the practices that are currently being used during the examination processes. It has recently introduced changes that address the inclusion of candidates with a disability. Such changes can also be observed in the JEE Main eligibility criteria 2024 designed by NTA.

  • Examination Pattern for JEE Main 2024
The JEE Main 2024 examination is inclusive of 2 papers - Paper 1 is for admission to B.Tech and B.E., while Paper 2 is meant for admission to B.Planning and B.Arch. All the papers are held in the form of a standardised computer-based test (CBT), except for the drawing section of Paper 2 for B.Arch, which includes a pen-and-paper test.

  • JEE Main Preparation Tips
Preparing for JEE Main puts the candidates under humongous pressure since this entrance examination determines if the candidates will be able to get into the course and college of their choice. The competition to get admission to the best engineering colleges increases every year and touches new heights. However, with sufficient preparation, candidates appearing for JEE Main can perform well and fulfil their educational goals. Let’s go through some JEE preparation tips.

    • Make a Study Timetable
A timetable can prove to be very helpful in covering your syllabus in time, allowing you to sufficiently practise all subjects well before you appear for the JEE Main. Make a study timetable with appropriate hours dedicated to each topic based on your strengths and weaknesses and include breaks for yourself.
    • Cover the Entire Syllabus
The enormity of the syllabus for JEE Main can put candidates under stress. However, it is crucial that the entirety of the syllabus is covered by the candidates during their preparation. Nevertheless, the advantageous thing here is that all candidates are well aware of every topic in the syllabus since they have studied all of it in classes 11 and 12. So, preparing for the JEE Main examination is more like a revision and practice of everything that the candidates have studied for the 10+2 examinations.
    • Manage Time Efficiently
Time management is an important skill to maintain while preparing for JEE Main. The examination is held for 3 hours, during which you must attempt at least 75 questions out of 90. The questions can be lengthy and require more time to solve. So, ensure that you practise enough to improve your accuracy and speed, further resulting in finishing your paper on time.
    • Refer to Quality Study Material
You cannot afford to waste any of their preparatory time before the JEE Main 2023 examination. Thus, it is crucial that they refer to the appropriate, reliable, and helpful study material. One such quality study material is the NCERT Books. These books cover the entire syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, and Maths for classes 11th and 12th. Moreover, you can also refer to the highly relevant and well-organised study material of ALLEN.
    • Practice Sample Papers/Mock Tests
Practising your knowledge is the most crucial part of your preparation. You can make a timetable that gives you adequate time to practise solving JEE Main sample papers and question papers from previous years. NTA also releases mock test papers, which are highly recommended for better practice. Judiciously practising will help you decrease the chances of mistakes in the examination.
    • Focus Equally on All Subjects
Physics, Chemistry, and Maths hold an equal weightage of marks in JEE Main exam pattern. Therefore, all candidates are advised to practise well enough for each of the three. One can practise more for the subject they might think they are weak at. As mentioned before, cover the entire syllabus for each subject and do not ignore any topic from any subject.
During the preparatory period for JEE Main, candidates may often end up paying less attention to their health and sleep requirements. It is essential that all candidates also focus on their health during their preparation for JEE Main. Maintain a proper and healthy diet, avoid continuous and long study hours, take regular breaks, and fulfil your body’s need for sleep.

That’s all for the JEE Main 2024. To be updated on all the latest changes, stay connected with us at ALLEN. Moreover, we also provide the IIT coaching for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced to boost your preparation and pave the way for students to get admission into their desired colleges.
